Frequently asked questions
Getting started
How does the app know which floor I'm on?
Your iPhone has a barometer that feels the small drop in air pressure as you drive up a ramp. The app measures how far you climbed from the street and reads the floor the moment your car switches off. One floor is usually about 3 metres (10 feet), and the app learns each garage's real floor height from the floors you confirm.
Which permissions does it need, and why?
Motion & Fitness lets the app read the barometer. Without it nothing can be measured.
Location, set to Always lets the app notice you're driving and measure the drive in the background, without you opening it. Location is used on the phone and isn't stored as a history.
Notifications are how it tells you the floor when you park.
If you said no to one by mistake, open the app's Settings ▸ Automatic: it shows each permission and a shortcut to fix it. You can also change them in the iPhone's Settings app under Parking Floor.
Why do I have to add my car?
Your car switching off is how the app knows you've parked, and iPhone only tells apps that through the car's Bluetooth or CarPlay. Add the car once under Settings ▸ Vehicles: type its Bluetooth name exactly as it appears in the iPhone's Settings ▸ Bluetooth, or open the screen while you're in the car and tap it.
Only the cars you add count. Earbuds, speakers, a friend's car or a taxi never record a parking.
My car has no Bluetooth or CarPlay. Can I still use it?
Not for automatic parking, sorry. Without Bluetooth or CarPlay the app can't tell when the car switches off, so it can't know when to read the floor.
Which iPhones does it work on?
Any iPhone that runs iOS 17 or later. All of them have the barometer the app needs.
Do I need to add my garages?
No. The first time you park in a garage the app creates it for you and names it from Apple Maps. You can also add one yourself under Garages ▸ +.
When something looks wrong
The floor it shows is wrong. What do I do?
Correct it once. Press and hold the notification and pick the right floor, or tap Wrong floor in the app. That garage learns from it, so the next visit comes out right.
Floors are plain numbers with street level as floor 1. If a garage numbers its floors differently (its street level is "G", say), one correction teaches it.
Why does it say "6 or 7?" instead of one floor?
The climb it measured landed between two levels, and the app won't pretend to know which. Tap the right one. The first visit or two to a garage often look like this, because the app starts with a typical floor height; one confirmed floor teaches it the real one.
I parked but didn't get a notification.
Check these, in order:
- Driving Focus. If you use it, add Parking Floor to its allowed apps (iPhone Settings ▸ Focus ▸ Driving ▸ Apps). Otherwise the notification is held until the Focus ends.
- Permissions. Location must be set to Always and Motion & Fitness must be on. The app's Settings ▸ Automatic shows both.
- Your car. The car must be one you added under Settings ▸ Vehicles, and connected by Bluetooth or CarPlay during the drive.
- Automatic is on. The switch is at the top of the app's Settings.
- It was a garage. Surface lots and street parking have no floor, so nothing is recorded.
The app's Settings ▸ Advanced ▸ Event log says what it did during the drive and why. If it still doesn't make sense, tell us and include the date and time of the drive.
It asked me "which floor?" instead of telling me.
That happens when the app couldn't measure the whole climb, for example if the phone was off or the app wasn't allowed to run in the background. Your usual floor at that garage is already selected, so it's usually one tap.
It recorded a parking where I didn't park in a garage.
Tap I didn't park here on the notification or in the app and it's removed. When the app isn't sure a climb was a garage, it asks you first.
Battery and privacy
Does it drain my battery?
Most of the time the app does nothing at all. iOS watches your garages and notices when you start moving, without GPS. Precise location runs only while you're driving with your car connected, and stops the moment the car switches off. That's the same kind of location a maps app uses while you navigate, and only for the length of the drive.
Where is my data kept?
On your iPhone. There's no account and no server keeping your drives. Nothing leaves the phone unless you turn on Share drive logs, which sends diagnostic logs to help us fix detection problems. The privacy policy explains exactly what's in them.
How do I delete my data?
Deleting the app deletes everything it stored. If you shared drive logs and want those deleted too, email us with the iPhone ID shown in the app's Settings ▸ Drive logs.
Send feedback
A bug, a garage it got wrong, an idea: we'd like to hear it. If it's about a particular drive, the date, time and garage help a lot.
